OUR ROLEX HISTORY
The Van Deijl tradition of striving for excellence, elegance and innovative creativity was founded in 1960 as a reputable family business in the heart of Cape Town’s northern suburbs. Heir to a longstanding craftsman tradition, founder Wilco Van Deijl’s passion for horology has inspired a partnership with Rolex, forged almost a quarter of a century ago.
VAN DEIJL SINCE 1964
Our story begins when founders Wilco and Hermine Van Deijl laid the foundation for a remarkable legacy in 1960, with Wilco becoming a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), and receiving the institute’s highest annual award.
In his day, Wilco was the highest qualified jeweller in South Africa, receiving many accolades and esteemed credentials; and with Hermine’s innate elegance and passion for excellence, the stage was set for Van Deijl to become the jeweller of choice for every generation.
In 1964 this formidable due opened the doors of their first Cape Town store, and together they instilled a profound sense of pride and belonging within their staff and patrons.
A CHOICE FOR EVERY GENERATION
As sons, Ernst, Liebrecht and Henri Van Deijl joined the family business, each excelled in their own areas of expertise, and with an unwavering dedication to integrity, quality, expertise and excellent service, the reins of this reputable family business was officially handed down to the next generation in 1994.
With the launch of a new destination store in Tyger Valley Centre, more award-winning staff joined the Van Deijl community, and in 1999 Van Deijl was invited to be a part of the worldwide network of Official Rolex Retailers.
OUR ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT
With an extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit, Van Deijl celebrated 36 years as a community and launched Van Deijl Watches in 2000. This new venture included only the finest and most prestigious timepieces, complementing a beautifully designed and hand-crafted jewellery collection, with Rolex becoming the crown jewel of the collection!
Other developments followed and in 2007 Van Deijl Watches doubled in size and became one of the largest specialist watch stores in the Western Cape.
In 2015 Van Deijl surpassed all previous achievements, unveiling its state-of-the-art double volume flagship store in Tyger Valley Centre, complete with a meticulously crafted Rolex Showroom as its pride and joy, becoming one of the ultimate destinations for watch and jewellery lovers from across the world.
